This production was adapted for the stage from the popular Ealing comedy film of the same name but is now set in South Lincolnshire village in 1952, where a group of residents are endeavouring to purchase and operate their branch railway line which is to be axed.

The setting for this play is ‘Trudy’s Beauty Parlour’ in the small town of Chinquapin, Louisiana, U.S.A. and full marks must go to the designers and builders for creating such a realistic set which even featured running water to facilitate hair washing.

SLT has a reputation for delivering high quality productions that attract capacity audiences for their serious plays and great comedies but this production of ‘Cinderella’ was their first venture into the world of pantomime and from curtain-up the well-chosen principals were immediately into character.

This outstanding production of J.B. Priestly’s popular comedy was dedicated to Sue Robey, who sadly died on 22 August 2011. Though she was fighting illness for some time Sue remained active and involved in directing right up to the week before she was admitted to hospital.

This play by John Godber is about the marriage of Jack (Gary Goodge) and Liz (Karen Davey), with the storyline pieced together from recollections of the annual family seaside holiday, always taken at Blackpool, always at the same time of year, always using the same accommodation and nearly always wet, hence pac-a-macs feature among the costumes.

I thought the very commendable interpretation of this charming story was sensitively and skilfully directed. It was performed by a competent cast that included several young persons who demonstrated some fine acting talent.
