Call for Cast & Crew - Twelfth Night - Sleaford Live - 8th to 11th May 2019
I am very excited to have been asked to direct a show for SLT which will be performed for four nights during Sleaford Live 2019.
I have decided on Twelfth Night (aka What You Will).
Twelfth Night was written in the middle of Shakespeare's career around 1601, and most critics consider it to be one of his greatest comedies.
In Shakespeare's day, Twelfth Night was celebrated as a festival, in which everything is turned upside down! The show examines illusion, deception, disguise, pain and the extraordinary things that love can cause us to do.
For this reason, it seems to fit very well with the live arts festival theme and 'Sleaford Live' specifically. Hence our production will have a real festival feel about it. (May Day, not Christmas!)
Twelfth Night has a good variety of characters across all ages (adult members) and great parts for both male and female actors, along with a nice amount of chorus roles for those who are not so confident with the text but would still like to be involved.
There are also potential openings for singers, dancers and musicians.
I will be beginning with a pre-audition workshop on Saturday 3rd November running between 10 am and 4 pm and hold early open auditions on Thursday 15th & Friday 16th November, 7 pm - 9:30 pm, plus Saturday 17th November, 2 pm - 5 pm.
Holding early auditions will give me the opportunity to work on a one to one basis with any cast members that need extra help with the text once the show has been cast and before rehearsals begin. I will take care not impact on any shows currently in rehearsal when arranging these sessions.
With this in mind, I am now seeking a dedicated backstage team who fancy taking up the challenge of a production that is totally new for SLT.
The roles I am hoping to fill are as follows:
- Assistant Director who has a good knowledge of Shakespeare and wants to help create something vibrant and unique (could also be in the cast)
- Choreographer (could also be a member of the cast or the AD)
- Singing Teacher (could also be a member of the cast or the AD)
- Stage Manager
- General BS crew x 3
- Props Manager
- Scenic Artist
- Construction team - some of this is being done off-site by my partner, but we will need one or two other competent carpenters.
- Sound Designer/Technician
- Lighting/Designer/ Technician
- Costume Designer / Wardrobe Manager
- Wardrobe Assistants (With sewing experience and ability to help with dressing on performance nights)
- Publicity (I will be doing most of this myself, but if anyone would like to help, please let me know.)
- Hair/Make-up Artists x 2/3
- Anyone else who would like to help out backstage in any capacity
A production meeting will be arranged once the team is in place but anyone wishing to be involved backstage is very welcome to come along to the workshop or auditions to get a feel of what we are doing.
If you would like to be part of this team and join me on an adventure, please email [email protected] to register your interest, using ''TWELFTH NIGHT SLT CREW'' as the header for your email.
If anyone is considering auditioning for a part in the show and attending the workshop, please also send me an email at the same address using ''TWELFTH NIGHT SLT CAST'' as the header, and I will include you in any future casting calls or workshop information as it becomes available.
Currently planned dates are as follows but might be subject to slight changes, and not everyone will be called to all rehearsals. Rehearsals will generally run from 7:30pm - 10 pm for weekdays and longer on a Sunday. Exact times to be confirmed.
